PLAST 2026: How AMAPLAST Powers One of Europe’s Largest Plastics Shows

For over 60 years, this Milan based association has been quietly doing something remarkable making sure that when a plastics manufacturer anywhere in the world needs the best machinery, their name comes to mind.

ASSOCOMAPLAST found in 1960 and rebranded as AMAPLAST in 2017, the association today represents around 170 of Italy’s most significant companies in the plastics and rubber machinery, ancillary equipment, and moulds sector. From granulators to extrusion lines, injection moulding machines to twin screw compounders, the breadth of what the company’s member companies collectively manufacture is staggering.

Mario Maggiani with Ginu Joseph

Two Industry Voices, One Important Conversation

On the floor of Plast 2026 where over 50 international buyers had gathered under AMAPLAST’s coordination, representing some of the most active plastics machinery procurement markets across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Mr. Ginu Joseph ,Editor and Chief of Modern Plastics India and Vice President of the Global Plastics Association sat down with Stefania Arioli, Head of Marketing and Research Office at AMAPLAST, for a conversation that covered far more ground than a typical trade show exchange. From the strategic role AMAPLAST plays in projecting Italian manufacturing excellence onto the global stage, to the growing importance of emerging markets like India in the future of plastics machinery trade, the discussion was frank, forward looking, and rich with insight. Arioli whose command of both the data and the narrative behind Italy’s plastics machinery sector is immediately evident spoke with clarity about how AMAPLAST continues to evolve its role from a traditional industry body into an active intelligence and advocacy platform for its members. For Mr. Joseph and the readers of Modern Plastics India, it was a conversation that underscored something important that behind the spectacle of a show like PLAST, there is a deeply considered institutional effort to ensure that Italian engineering remains the world’s first choice and that AMAPLAST is the engine driving that effort, quietly and without pause.

What AMAPLAST Actually Does and Why It Matters

It’s easy to underestimate what a trade association does day to day but this group is not a passive body. Its core mission is to promote worldwide knowledge and circulation of Italian plastics and rubber processing technologies that, by any measure, lead the global market in both production volume and export value. Since the early 1950s, Italian manufacturers have offered a complete range of original, reliable, and innovative machines to buyers across every continent. The job is to make sure that story keeps getting told loudly, clearly, and in the right rooms. It does this by participating in major sectorial exhibitions worldwide, running information booths that connect international buyers directly with Italian manufacturers, and producing industry intelligence that keeps members and the broader market informed and competitive.

Mario Maggiani, General Manager, AMAPLAST

PLAST Milan 2026, the Event that Defines the Industry

Every three years, PROMAPLAST does something even bigger, it organises PLAST, the international plastics and rubber industry exhibition in Milan, widely regarded as one of the most important trade gatherings of its kind anywhere in the world. The most recent edition, held in 2023, brought 38,000 visitors from 109 countries together with 1,323 exhibitors across more than 50,000 net square metres at Fiera Milano.

The 2026 edition, held from 9 to 12 June at Fiera Milano in Rho, raised the bar further. For Italian manufacturers and their international partners, PLAST is not just an exhibition, it is the moment when the industry takes stock of where things stand and where they’re going. Live machine demonstrations, product launches, expert sessions, sustainability showcases, it all converges here, once every three years. Being there is not optional for serious players and this organisation makes it happen.

Who Joins and Why

The members fall into two categories, Effective Members, who design, manufacture, and sell machines, equipment, or moulds for the plastics and rubber industry and Associated Members, who complement and support the sector. The current member count sits at 170 companies a number that continues to grow, with new members approved as recently as early 2026. For a manufacturer looking to break into new markets, align with international technical standards, or simply be counted among Italy’s best, membership in this group is a statement of intent. The association is affiliated with CONFINDUSTRIA, the Confederation of Italian Industries, and EUROMAP, the European Plastics and Rubber Machinery Association. That’s a network that opens doors.

The Bigger Picture

Stefania Arioli, who heads marketing and the research office at this prestigious firm, represents the kind of professional rigour that the association brings to everything it does. Behind her card is an organisation that tracks industry data, publishes research, sets the agenda for Italian plastics machinery on the global stage, and shows up at Cairo, Istanbul, New Delhi, and Milan wherever the industry gathers. In a world where manufacturing supply chains are under constant scrutiny and buyers are looking harder than ever for quality they can trust, this company’s work matters more than it ever has. Italy has been building the world’s plastics machines for more than 70 years. AMAPLAST makes sure the world knows it.
