FIMIC Marks Six Decades of Filtration Innovation

FIMIC was found in 1963 as a small, close knit team that over the years increased in size while retaining the same enthusiasm for the work. Based in Carmignano di Brenta, in the Veneto region near Padua deep in the heart of northern Italy’s industrial manufacturing belt the company began by producing guillotines for cutting plastic and paper waste before spotting a far bigger opportunity in the 1990s. In 1996, they developed the first FIMIC backflush filter, and a year later added a scraping system that further advanced melt filtration technology, innovations that made the company a specialist in automatic self cleaning melt filters with an eye toward simplicity, optimisation, flexibility, and performance. That pivot changed everything. Today, under the continued stewardship of the founding family, the company stands as the only company in the world offering a complete range of seven automatic melt filter models a distinction no competitor has been able to match.

A Conversation That Mattered

On the floor of Plast 2026, Mr. Ginu Joseph, Editor and Chief of Modern Plastics India and Vice President of the Global Plastics Association sat down with Giorgia Bortolamei, Marketing Manager at FIMIC, for a conversation that was as direct and focused as FIMIC’s products themselves. Bortolamei who communicates the brand with the same clarity and precision that defines the engineering behind it spoke openly about how the company approaches new markets, the growing urgency of recycling infrastructure investment across Asia, and what makes their philosophy of simplicity first engineering so relevant to recyclers operating in resource constrained environments. For Mr. Joseph and the readers of Modern Plastics India a market where post consumer and post industrial plastic recycling is scaling rapidly and where production continuity is a daily operational priority the exchange offered a rare, candid look at a company that has been doing exactly one thing for over 60 years, doing it better than anyone else, and showing no signs of slowing down.

A Product Range Built Around One Uncompromising Goal

FIMIC remains the only company on the market to offer a complete range of seven automatic melt filter models, designed to process even the most contaminated post-industrial and post-consumer plastics. Each model in the line up addresses a specific challenge in the recycling process. The flagship RAS is the best-selling automatic scraping melt filter versatile, efficient, and the workhorse of recycling lines around the world. The ERA tackles double filtration for very high contamination levels, performing two consecutive filtration steps in a single machine. The GEM is the largest filter in the world by filtration surface, built for maximum throughput in the most demanding high-volume applications. The TEN features the industry’s first automatic screen changer for continuous filtration on woven mesh. And the RAS+REF adds back flush capability, giving operators two distinct operating modes depending on what their material demands. FIMIC melt filters can be adapted to any single or twin screw extruder for production from 300 to 3,000 kilos and for any type of plastic material. Screen changes are completed by a single operator in under 30 minutes, with no line shutdown required. The company is renowned on the market as having the most cost effective filter to manage, the filters and blades are the only parts that need changing after purchase, and the company’s policy is to offer them at a cost three times lower than competitors. That’s not a marketing claim. That’s a business model designed entirely around keeping customers’ costs down and their lines running. Alongside the filter range, they developed the SPA screw pump, a pump that doesn’t need gear changes, operates at lower management costs, and is not as sensitive to contaminated material, directly addressing one of recycling’s most persistent maintenance headaches. The guillotine range completes the portfolio, providing efficient, customisable size reduction for plastic bales, rubber blocks, and paper rolls ahead of the extrusion and filtration process.

PLAST Milan 2026, Launching the Next Chapter

At Plast 2026, held at Fiera Milano from 9 to 12 June, the company took up position at Booth D48–D50 and used the platform to introduce two significant new additions to its melt pump portfolio. The RMP,Recycling Melt Pump ensures consistent output in applications where stability and control are essential. Its gear pump design provides a fixed and predictable material flow, decoupling the extrusion process from upstream and downstream fluctuations and enabling more precise control and improved production repeatability. The second innovation, the FPP, FIMIC Piston Pump is designed to address the main causes of instability in extrusion processes in recycling, particularly when processing variable and contaminated materials. Its dual cylinder system with synchronised pistons ensures continuous and controlled pressure even under highly variable conditions, improving the overall efficiency of the line. Together with the established SPA screw pump, these two new models complete an integrated pumping ecosystem that covers virtually every process condition a recycler is likely to encounter.

Why Recyclers Around the World Keep Choosing FIMIC

With more than 1,000 systems installed in over 50 countries, each client remains a unique story for this company. That line says a lot about how the company sees its work not as a transaction, but as a relationship. Every installation begins with a material test at the company’s facility, where the customer’s actual recycling material is run through the filter before any purchase decision is made. The result is visible before the order is signed. Their technologies are designed to process even the most demanding materials efficiently, ensuring a stable and reliable production flow allowing companies to work with a wider range of raw materials, including lower cost and highly contaminated inputs, while still achieving high quality output. In a world where recycling economics depend entirely on the quality and consistency of the pellet you produce, that capability is not a nice to have. It is the difference between a profitable operation and an unprofitable one. For any recycler, compounder, or extrusion operator dealing with the daily reality of contaminated feedstock, inconsistent melt quality, and mounting pressure to prove their circular economy credentials the company is not simply a machinery supplier. It is the partner that keeps the line running, the pellet clean, and the business viable. Over 60 years of focused engineering in one of the world’s most demanding processing challenges have earned that status and at FIMIC, they’re still building on it.
