More Than Ever Before: 106 New Junior Staff At Arburg

The moment had finally arrived: 106 new junior employees started their careers at Arburg – more than ever before in the company’s history. The team now comprises a total of 304 apprentices and students from the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW). This year, not only is the number of newcomers large, but the age range is too: the youngest is 16 years old, the oldest 35. Renate Keinath, who as Managing Partner is responsible for human resources management, warmly welcomed the newcomers on behalf of the Managing Directors and Partners, Arburg employees and the apprenticeship team…
“It is very important to us to offer you all excellent apprenticeship, because it will be you who will bring our company forward in the future with your expertise,” Renate Keinath emphasised in her address. We have a lot of experience in this area, because we have been training young people for over 70 years.”
High priority
This year, 75 apprentices and 31 DHBW students started their careers at Arburg. In order to expand the high level of dual apprenticeship, Arburg works closely with the vocational schools, the dual universities and the Black Forest Campus. “The current total number of 213 apprentices and 91 students is clear proof of the high priority given to apprenticeship at Arburg,” Renate Keinath concluded. “Giving young people a successful start to their careers is extremely important to us, especially in such challenging times as these.” Arburg continues apprenticeship without let-up, and takes on virtually all apprentices and students into permanent employment every year. And the quality of the apprenticeship is evidenced by numerous awards: As the first apprenticeship company in Baden-Württemberg, Arburg has already been triple quality certified since 2018 with the ISO certification, the LQW award (learner-oriented quality testing in further education) and the seal of approval from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK).
Diversified introduction
To make starting out on a career path easier, a comprehensive programme has been developed by apprenticeship manager Michael Vieth and his 20-member team. The first few days are about discovering the company and getting to know the apprentice colleagues as well as the respective year supervisors, who are there to give advice and support. In addition to guided tours of the company, the programme includes getting to know the product range, the corporate philosophy and also the 2,000 square metre Vocational Training Center – the future workplace and contact point for all apprentices and students.
Outside activities are also organised. At a team-building event, the apprentices and students cover the topic of an error culture in which mistakes are dealt with constructively. In the process, they learn how to better assess themselves and how to strengthen communication among themselves. During the introductory week, there is also plenty of action: whether it’s a mountain bike tour, escape games, a barista course, adventure golf, hiking or a sports course at the Arburg Health Center – new entrants are spoilt for choice. There’s also a joint barbecue with the trainers.

While the apprentices and students of the 2022 apprenticeship year are getting started, the application phase for 2023 is already in full swing. Arburg offers a total of around 20 apprenticeship and study courses. The range includes, for example, DHBW degree programmes in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, (business) IT, as well as commercial and technical professions such as mechatronics engineer, process mechanic, industrial mechanic, industrial clerk or technical product designer or warehouse logistics specialist.
