Struktol Company of America, LLC, a leading innovator in polymer additive technology, is proud to highlight the Strukol EF 44A, a processing additive developed for applications in natural and synthetic rubber. Engineered as a blend of fatty acid derivatives, predominantly zinc soaps, EF 44A is designed to enhance mixing and flow across a wide range of elastomers, including NR, SBR, and EPDM, while excluding halogenated elastomers.
Due to its selected composition comprising fatty acid derivatives with different polarities, the EF 44A optimizes compound flow and handling, helping compounders achieve smoother mixing, improved flow, and more efficient production in diverse rubber formulations. Its broad utility across common elastomer systems gives processors a versatile additive option that can support consistent processing across multiple applications.
The EF 44A is especially suited for extruded compounds, where improved processability can help support smoother throughput and better finished-part consistency. The additive also offers advantages in transfer molding and injection molding, helping manufacturers achieve reliable mold filling and part release in molded applications.
By improving dispersion of fillers, especially mineral fillers, the EF 44A supports more uniform compound characteristics and more reliable end-product performance. The product also has a beneficial influence on batch-to-batch uniformity, helping processors reduce variability and maintain consistent product quality from one production run to the next.
The EF 44A acts as a cure activator and allows for reduced dosage of stearic acid. This dual function can help formulators simplify recipes, while maintaining cure performance, and potentially lower the need for separate additive inputs within the compound.
For plant handling and production practicality, the EF 44A is supplied in pastille form, which supports easy feeding and dosing in typical compounding operations. The additive has a dropping point of 91–101 °C, a specific gravity of 1.10, and a maximum zinc content of 9.0%. These properties provide formulators with clear technical parameters for incorporation into rubber compounds. EF 44A also offers storage stability of at least two years under normal storage conditions, supporting efficient inventory planning and reduced waste.
The EF 44A is available in 55 lb. PE bags on 2,200 lb. skids and 25 kg PE bags on 1,000 kg skids, allowing processors to match packaging formats to their production scale. With a recommended dosage of 1–3 phr, the additive gives compounders a clear starting point for balancing performance and cost while maintaining formulation flexibility.
