PLASTINDIA 2026 Roadshow Spotlights West Bengal’s ₹3,000 Crore Plastics Investment, Aligning With CM’s Industrial Vision
Industry roadshow to be graced by Hon. Mayor Janab Firhad Hakim and Principal Secretary Smt. Vandana Yadav, IAS.
The Plastindia Foundation, organizers of the world’s largest plastics exhibition, is set to host the PLASTINDIA 2026 Kolkata Roadshow today, November 12, 2025, at the JW Marriott Kolkata. The event will bring together industry leaders and policymakers to spotlight the massive growth trajectory of the plastics industry in West Bengal, which is poised for over ₹3,000 crore in new capital expenditure.
This investment strongly supports the Honourable Chief Minister, Smt. Mamata Banerjee’s vision to establish West Bengal as a global manufacturing hub, particularly by empowering the MSME sector. This new wave of investment is projected to create approximately 2 lakh new jobs in the state and contribute an additional ₹20,000 crore to the state’s GDP.
The roadshow will be graced by Chief Guest Janab Firhad Hakim, Honourable Mayor of Kolkata and Minister for Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, and Guest of Honour Smt. Vandana Yadav, IAS, Principal Secretary, Industry, Commerce & Enterprises, Government of West Bengal. Held in collaboration with the Indian Plastics Federation (IPF), the event will unveil the grand vision for PLASTINDIA 2026, the 12th International Plastics Exhibition, Conference & Convention.
West Bengal: A New Hub for Polymer Growth
The roadshow highlights West Bengal’s emergence as a high-growth center for the polymer industry, aligning with the state’s ‘Egiye Bangla‘ (Bengal Marches Forward) industrial policy. This boom is supported by major projects, including:
- Over ₹5,000 crore being invested by Haldia Petrochemicals (HPL) to establish India’s largest Phenol & Acetone plant, creating significant downstream opportunities for MSMEs.
- Plans by the Indian Plastics Federation (IPF) to develop at least two new poly parks, including one in Uluberia, to meet rising demand.
- The establishment of a new sector skill centre at Sankrail to develop a workforce for the future.
The massive potential for growth is underscored by West Bengal’s current per capita plastic consumption, which at 9 kg, is significantly below the national average of 15 kg, indicating a vast, untapped domestic market.
‘Bharat Next’: The World’s Premier Plastics Exhibition
The roadshow will formally launch the eastern region’s participation in PLASTINDIA 2026. The 12th edition of this mega-event, themed “Bharat Next”, will be held from February 5-10, 2026, at the new, state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam (IECC) in New Delhi.
PLASTINDIA 2026 is set to be the world’s largest gathering for the industry, with:
- 2,000+ Exhibitors
- 600,000+ Visitor Footfall
- 80+ Participating Countries
Mr. Ravish Kamath, President of the Plastindia Foundation, stated, “We are deeply grateful to the Honourable Chief Minister, Smt. Mamata Banerjee, for her government’s proactive industrial policies which have created a fertile ground for growth. India is on an unstoppable trajectory, and ‘Bharat Next’ is our commitment to fostering this growth. The Indian plastics market is projected to reach $50 billion by 2026, and West Bengal’s new wave of investment is a prime example of this momentum.”
Mr. Alok Tibrewala, Chairman of the National Executive Council for PLASTINDIA 2026, added, “Moving to the world-class Bharat Mandapam is a game-changer. PLASTINDIA 2026 will be India’s biggest Trade show ever and India’s first Zero Waste exhibition.
It provides the scale and sophistication to match our ‘Bharat Next‘ theme and the CM’s ‘Bengal Means Business’ vision. We are offering an unparalleled platform for innovation, technology, and global networking. We invite the stalwarts of West Bengal’s industry to join us and show the world their strength.”
Mr. Amit Agarwal, President of the Indian Plastics Federation (IPF), said, “West Bengal is at a critical inflection point. The new ₹3,000 crore capex directly supports the Hon’ble CM’s focus on employment generation via the MSME sector, which forms the backbone of our 5,500+ plastic units. PLASTINDIA 2026 is the perfect catalyst for East India to forge global partnerships and accelerate this growth.”
The Kolkata roadshow will feature keynotes from the attending dignitaries and a detailed presentation on the exhibition, followed by a networking dinner.
