The Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SGC) launched their newest publication called the Grün Book today. The SGC presented the Grün Book to Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) today following which she graced the virtual SGC Dialogue on Sustainability and Plastic Recycling as a keynote speaker. The SGC Dialogue was attended by more than 60 participants namely the members of the chamber and several renowned industry partners. The publication addresses the importance of Plastic Recycling in Singapore and covers a comprehensive summary of the Zero Waste Masterplan, an overview of German Recycling capabilities, a case-study on a specific project in international cooperation for a bottle-tobottle recycling plant, and an extensive listing of more than 400 recycling companies and organisations.
Says Jens Rübbert, President SGC: “The German recycling industry is highly developed in its capabilities in plastic recycling and is well placed to provide expertise and assistance in achieving Singapore’s goals.” The publication marks the starting point of fostering cross-border collaboration in research and plastic recycling efforts, contributing to economic growth, creation of jobs, and leading to a more livable future for ourselves and the coming generations, which Ms Grace Fu reiterated in her keynote speech.
According to Mr Joachim Ihrcke, Chairman of the Sustainability Committee of the SGC, the objective is to establish a Centre of Excellence for Plastics Recycling (PRCOE) in Singapore and a PET Bottle-to-Bottle Recycling Plant at its core, with the aim of becoming the Regional Hub for knowledge on Plastics recycling. Systems and knowledge on plastic recycling in the German speaking region of Europe will be studied and adapted to the region and promoted regionally to encourage plastic recycling efforts in South-East Asia.
